How can I express a subclause necessity in the past when the main clause is in present tense and the subclause is

a) an interrogative content clause (indirect question)?

“Sometimes she wonders if she should have left a long time ago.”

Bazen uzun zaman önce terketse miydi(m)/bıraksa mıydı(m) diye düşünüyor.

b) a declarative content clause?

“Sometimes she thinks she should have left a long time ago.”

Bazen uzun zaman önce terketmeliydi(m) diye düşünüyor.

I am afraid it has to do with gerekmek again.

I wanted to encourage our learners to make as much translation as they could and gain self-confidence in learning Turkish language.. and I didn´t like to correct them unless it is really necessary or unless they ask for it.. But I got some criticism from some of you and decided to change my mind, and I will never click "like this message" button, even if it is a tiny, unimportant mistake..

That´s true that "it is a little weird". 

I think for me (benim için ) instead of to me (bana ) solves the problem in the sentence..

It should be a prepositional adjunct with için :

Birisine, benim için mektup yazdırdı .

IO.....noun/pro+için...DO ....vt + subject

But what if there was no direct object? If it was an intransitive verb? In that case the actor would become a direct object, isn´t it?

                   Beni ağlattı. ´He made me cry.´

But what is the dative -e doing in ´soldier´?
