No no, I understand what you mean, mdoni. Negative thinking doesn´t really lead us anywhere. But instead of always clapping our hands in the same rhythm with the whole world sometimes it is healthy to listen to dissentients also. They may have something to say.

I envy your childhood faith, mdoni. Yes we are all one soul.

Messages hidden in images reach us in a split second. That is their meaning, that is their purpose.

If you say so, caliptrix. I don´t think anything, I am yabancı. I just paid attention to the stress thing while I listened to Nazım Hikmet reading his own poem here.

But there is no point in fasting if you are not going to pray the 5 daily prays.

Keeping the prayers is more difficult than fasting. I would say it is the most difficult thing in Islam. And yet, it is the first thing the servant is asked about in the hereafter. If a person´s prayer is in order his other deeds are accepted also. If the prayer is lacking his whole performance is not complete.

The easiest thing in Islam, if I was asked  -  it is loving the Prophet SAAS.

Quite a useful post, thanks for the hint. It´s funny that the differences in meaning between -mAk and -mA infinitives show in ablative exactly. Maybe confusion with negative -mA has something to do with it.

Ablative carries a negative tone anyway, like in the phrase -dAn etmek ´deprive of´.

You are going to find many forms bunching up in Turkish morphology. You gave a couple of examples. One source of ambiguity is the so called pronominal –n- which comes between the possessive suffix and the case ending in the 3rd person. Thus, sokağında may be analysed in two different ways:

sokağ|ın|da ‘in your street’

sokağ|ı|n|da ‘in his street’.

Similarly, without a context it is impossible to say whether arkadaşları means

arkadaş|lar|ı ‘his friends’

OR arkadaş|ları ‘their friend(s)’.

Sentences or words are ambiguous if they are separated from their context. In a real communication these problems seldom rise up. In such cases more generous use of pronouns may be the solution as you suggested, Arkadas77.

They don´t have to hide it because they were never presupposed to hide it.

Aklından geçeni

akl|ın|dan =  stem akıl (ı is a dropping vowel) ‘mind’ + sg 2 nd possessive suffix –ın- ‘your’ + ablative ending –dan ‘from’

geç|en|ı = verb stem geç- ‘to pass’ + present participle marking –en ‘which passes’ + accusative ending –ı (because the predicate getir governs an accusative object)
