" Treat your girl right or someone else will "

´´ Kızına(sevgiline) iyi(doğru dürüst) davran yoksa başkası senin yerine davranır.

we had to put ´´senin yerine´´ cos if we dont put ´´senin yerine´´ that would be ´´başkası davranır´´ and that would be weird.

or some people might say this way:

´´ Kızına iyi davranmazsan başkası (iyi) davranacaktır.´´ ( if you dont treat your girl right, someone else will)

How can we translate ´should be´ or ´ought to be´ into Turkish?   Both for a location and for doing something.

eg:
You ought to be in bed now
He should be working

Şu an yatakta olmalısın. or Şu an yatakta olman lazım...but olmalısın is better one.

O çalışıyor olmalı. cos çalışıyor=working  olmalı = he should be..

its like this ; Blood attracts blood,You animal, is this your animal ....))))))

you supposed to laugh after this as this sentiment is made to be laughed at..)) bad joker ha ?

Hi all,

Could you translate this for me, my translation is that he is trying to say that his uncles son looks good and that he is making him look bad.... but I am still rusty so would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance {#emotions_dlg.ty_ty}

way amca oglu harbiden karizmatik görünüyorsun simdiden hayırlı teskereler

hi there..the last two words of the sentence might not make sense in western lingos as its a turkish saying ...its a  wishing word said to  soldiers to complete their military service without no delay or accident..

so that would be :

woww my cousin you really look charismatic  I in advance,  wish you have a good dischargement from army !!

Yet another try at it !

Tatilde gitme de beklemiyorum

your translation is :  i dont wait to go to the holiday.

so we dont say beklemiyorum or bekleyemiyorum in this case..we would say Ben de tatile gitmeyi dört gözle bekliyorum..

Polat Alemdar, ´Mavi Marmara´nın intikamını alacak

The shooting starts this week for the new movie titled "Kurtlar vadisi filistin" where Polat Alemdar (Necati Şaşmaz) stars.

The script is based on taking the revenge of the attack and killings at "Mavi Marmara" ship.
Polat will try to capture the commander of the attack, Moşe Ben Eliezer and will witness the cruelty of Eelizer during the movie, but succeding in his aim at the end.

Quoted from: here

This movie definetely will get bad reactions from certain people and countries as expected..but at the end of the day its giving some messages against cruelity
?  or is it like encouraging taking revenge ??? debatable....

 I don´t agree. There can be many possibilities like "Gelecek hafta onların İngiltere´ye gelmeye niyetleri var" We need the whole sentence to translate it correctly.

yours is guess as mine isnt it ?so we just guessing here..as we havent got the complete sentence..could be anything..

Gelecek hafta onlarin ingiltereye gelmeye . Thank you. Sorry for the spelling mistakes i  am sending THI FROM MY PHONE.

hi,the turkish sentence is not complete..so missing words in the verb ..because  ´´me´´ makes negatif in the verb my guess would be;

´´ They won´t come to England next week´´..(Gelecek hafta ingiltere´ye gelmeyecekler )

Mumundur karanlık veren sana. Anlatırdım bunu ama, gönlünün beli kırılıverir.

this is poetic lyric..so it might not make sense .. here it is:

´´ That´s your candle that gives you darkness. I would tell you this but then back(middle) of your heart could be  broken.´´

How is the reflexive form normally expressed in Turkish. Manisa Turkish states:

"This reflexive form of the verb stem is used to convey the reflexive meaning and takes the form of the suffix -in (subject to vowel harmony) or -n after verb stems ending in a vowel. As can be seen the reflexive sign -n is the same as the passive form for those verbs whose stems end in a vowel but the context of the sentence is usually enough to make the meaning passive or reflexive quite evident."

so if I wanted to say "I´m teaching myself at home" would this be "evde öğretiniyorum"? I have also seen "kendi" used to express oneself so could "evde kendi öğretiyorum" be used instead?

Thanks.

Hi Bob,that would be;

I am teaching myself at home = Evde kendi kendime öğretiyorum.

myself : kendi kendime , kendim,bizzat

he learnt english himself = o ingilizceyi kendisi(kendi)(kendi kendine) ögrendi.

they made the cake themselves = Keki kendileri yaptılar.

we went there ourselves = Oraya biz kendimiz gittik.

Hope this is gonna be helpful.

kendi=oneself

kendi kendime =myself

kendi kendine or kendisi =himself/herself/itself

kendi kendilerine or kendileri = themselves

kendi kendimize or kendimiz = ourselves

I
