Thread: listening and problems

Listening music by following its lyrics text is very useful for a learner. In Turkish, because of words can take different places in sentences, you may hear very different sounds. Listening Turkish music will help you to see this difference. As first step, listen the song without looking at lyrics and then listen it by following the lyrics, this will help your brain to detect the words easier.

For a while, I have been considering to write the speech texts of some parts of some famous movie series that you can watch by Internet. (TV Series) I believe that watching movie series and following the speech text are going to be very useful together but becuase of lackness of time, I still couldn´t start to do it. But as soon as possible, I´m going to start to do it for a better help to learners.

Watch and read the news in www.trt.net.tr which is the official channel of Türkiye. They generally put the texts and videos of news at same time, so you can both watch and follow the text. This website´s Turkish is also pretty simple and easy to understand.

This has got two main reasons actually:

1) Syntax: Although Turkish language has got a current syntax, we change the places of words for more stress.

Niye eve gittin?

Eve niye gittin?

Niye gittin eve?

2) Because of every word has got a meaning alone itself, it is very important to understand what does each word want to say and what they are going to mean when they come together.

Gelmeyeceğini bildiğim için bir şey demedim.

Gelmeyeceğini: That you aren´t going to come.

Bildiğim: That I know

İçin: For

Bildiğim için: Because of I know.

Bir şey: Something

Demedim: I didn´t say.

As you see, by only one word, we can express what a sentence want to say.

Allahim sen ümmeti peygamberi dogru yolu getir.

This was written with a German keyboard, so I think it probably should be Allahım and doğru... I think it´s something about marrying and the righteous road. Help please?

Correct Text:

Allah´ım, sen ümmet-i peygamberi doğru yola getir.

It means

"My God, you shall bring the community of Prophet to the right way."

Note: Ümmet-i Peygamber means "Community/Followers of Prophet" and it is an old Turkish sentence.

Original Saying: Peygamber Ümmeti.

Ümmet is an Arabic-rooted noun by the way.

you can get on balloon in Kadıköy Port and watch Istanbul from 300 metres

My favourite place in Istanbul is Bosphorus and surroundings. You can have a nice breakfast in Beylerbeyi; together with the amazin scene of Bosphorus.

Then, if you have chance and weather is good, you can drink a hot tea outside in Sarayburnu (Known as Park Gülhane) by the scene of two continents.

You can visit Historical Peninsula and taste the different atmosphere of this place.

Beyoğlu and its streets (Taksim, İstiklal, Sıraselviler and Cihangir) are other egzotic places to experience.

You can visit populer shopping centers of city; Kanyon and Cevahir for example.

As a classical tradition, you can visit Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet) and Haghia Sophia. You can go there by Zeytinburnu-Kabataş tramway line.

Of course there are more thousand things to do in Istanbul but these are my favourites.

thx

Thread: Sıla - Bana Biraz Renk Ver

Yesterday, when I was driving car, I have heard a very beautiful song of Sıla at radio. As a fan of Sıla, I knew that song from her İmza album but didn´t listen from start to end. When I listened it completely at the radio of car, I really liked a lot.

Bana Biraz Renk Ver.

Aç kapıyı ne olur, dışarıda kaldım,
Çok üşüdüm sıcağına bel bağladım,

Talihsizlikler üst üste geldi,
Kendimi güç bela yanına attım.

Sana inandım, koştum, geldim.
Dünde ne vardı unuttum, geldim.
Dünya yansın, koyverdim,
Bana biraz renk ver.

En başından biliyordum,
Adalet vardı.
Hiçkimse duymasa,
Bir duyan vardı.
En kötü kararlardan beterdi kararsızlık,
Niyetlenince Tanrı yolumu açtı.

Sana inandım, koştum, geldim.
Dünde ne vardı unuttum, geldim.
Dünya yansın, koyverdim,
Bana biraz renk ver.

Translation:

Give Me Some Colours

Open the door please, I stayed out,
I am so cold and lay my hopes on your heat,

Ambsaces came one by one,
I scarcely took myself near you.

I believed you, ran and came.
I forgot yesterday and I came,
Let the Earth burn, I gave up,
Give me some colours.

I knew since very start,
That there justice.
Even if nobody hears,
There was somebody hearing me,
Instability was worse than worst decisions,
God opened my way when I determined.

I believed you, ran and came.
I forgot yesterday and I came,
Let the Earth burn, I gave up,
Give me some colour.

And this the link that you can listen the song:

Quoting barba_mama

An evil girl, we will call her S. is trying to trick a guy into thinking he will have her babies.

He went to bed with her in September. Soooo, she is saying the babies are from September. But I am sure this is not true. First of all, she keeps telling people the sizes of her un-born babies. The sizes are too big for babies that are made in September. But, now her friend also told me that she said she will get the heartbeats of the babies checked when they were 6 weeks. Her friend is acutally a doctor in learning, and knows that a heartbeat can only be checked from 9 weeks onwards... So, S. is lying for sure.

Normally, I would tell the not-father this. However, the not-father and I recently had a fight, and he isn´t my friend anymore. I think he´s a dweep. So the problem is, should I tell him... Hence, the story of my life...filled with crazy people.

AHH?? I thought September was a person!! I should check the text again...

I´m trying to explain something difficult to a friend of mine, but he doesn´t seem to understand...soo, if somebody can translate this very strange message for me, it would be great!

"I know that S. is lying about the babies. She is saying they are from September to K., and she tells him they are his babies. But, a friend of S. knows for sure the babies are not from September, the babies are from the middle of the summer. The babies are not from K., I am sure of this, and I don´t know if I should tell him this...what do you think I should do?"

Thank you in advance for a fast reply

An interesting text.

S´nin bebekler hakkında yalan söylediğini biliyorum. K´ya bu işin Eylül´de olduğunu ve ona onun bebekleri olduğunu söylüyor. Ama, S´nin bir arkadaşı bebeklerin Eylül´de olmadığından kesinlikle emin, bebekler yazın ortasında oldu. Bebekler K.´dan değil, bundan eminim ama bunu ona söyleyip söylememem gerektiğini bilmiyorum. Sence ne yapmam gerekir?

OMG what is this??!!! A scenario for soap opera ??? {#emotions_dlg.confused}
