People.why all this fuss about ???In my case..thanking for foreigners help is a decent hug, attention given, small talk ,etc...things go totally different with old friends and gifts are different..

of course most of ppl are helpful, handy, etc but does that mean they expect sth in return???sth material???sth they can show to others?...doubt..doubt...world is not such americanized.. can live without generous American gifts.....Turkish world,I mean<img src='/static/images/smileys//lol.gif' alt='lol'> (fast)

Joelle,Turkish ppl r simply wonderful at helping foreigners.Do you really think they need to be paternized with a gift, don´t you think a smile, genuine acknowledgments ,and true hand shake would be enough? And if you want to show your appreciation with a modest gift sweets will do,calendars, small stationary ....but Turks help without waiting for a gift)in return)

Hi adana, I love rock and blues but I am afraid I am not very familiar with Turkish rock music. I know a couple of pretty good songs of Haluk Levent but that´s far from Hendrix style.

Yavuz sounds great, thanks for posting this! His voice reminds me somewhat of Lenny Kravitz, it´s probably the same voice effect.

Take care and keep rockin´!

Nice article Trudy)I was to Edirne once being totally enchanted with the beauty of the mosque and the voice of ezan,he did special vocal performance for us,which was extremely nice of him.I can confirm that Trakya is worth visiting, one of the University buildings  In Edirne is an old railway station adopted to its needs with nice surrounding and you brought my memories back to the Health Museum, incredible exhibition with a lot of pictures and medical tools.

The Republic of Kazakhstan in Central Asia is in the process of building the world’s first alien embassy according to some local media reports. If these reports are to be believed, the authorities have already allocated a large plot of land in the city of Almaty for this ambitious project. Facilities to be built within the complex will include a guesthouse, theatre and translation service. A purpose built UFO landing pad and checkpoint will be attached to the embassy.

Kazakhstan’s government believes open contact with aliens is imminent ........

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well.

1934...

Only a great man could say such words,a man who appreciated bravery, courage and understood the zeal of fight.Turks have always admired the bravery of their enemies, such unusual thing .Ataturk was a great man,one of the greatest leader in world´s history. I grew up with him as my father was an admirer of Ataturk, instead of fairy tales for goodnight I heard Turkish history,Ataturk teaching and world history as well.Good post Janissary))

Adana, aren´t you exaggerating here? How do you want to compare which nation´s history was worse or which nation was more heroic? Taken that The Netherlads are way smaller than Poland what´s your plan? To use percentages? each nation has been through wars, each had to protect its boundaries, each has moments of glory and moments of failure. well,I have no plan and I really appreciate the fact that most of nations were at wars  for independence at some historical times, just wanted to mention that we Poles cannot be compared to  others despite the size of other lands during  historical times,we were everywhere due to our adventurous character, being fooled by many goverments and ideas in our history, striving for our independence or getting involved into foreign affairs just in order to help and save others..ehhh..this mesjanizm suck with the mother´s milk..

the Netherlands during 2nd war were compelled almost in one day while Poland  was defending herself more being attacked by Germans and Russians almost at the same time.

the Dutch were as brave as french with one difference-they had no anti -agression brochures thrown from planes)

As for the anthem, it´s not the anthem that´s holy. You are free to criticise it. Some people are proud of what it represents, the history behind it but it´s not like the country is based ON the song. You may mock it, come up with silly lyrics and still feel confident about where you come from. Just think, all those who died, died so that you could live a happy life without facing a trial for making fun of the anthem. Piłsudzki would be of a different idea and those who died too,the shame of us Poles that our  former prime minister does not know the words of it and proved not being able to sing it...The shame on all who do not know it and mock at it...as for those who died on behalf of homeland and its independence it was a value not necessarilly holy. They died so that you could live in a better, freer country. No song is going to change it. You mentioned Bogurodzica  i did as a joke  in response to femme- it is surely a religious song, does it mean I have to respect a song although I am an atheist? Should I consider it a representation of my ideas, a definition of who I am? not you but let others in the name of your tolerance attitude.. I don´t think so. Surely I appreciate its historical value in linguistic terms but that´s it. Why do people choose to respect symbols over other people?

There are no universal national values where is God,honour, homeland or in case those who mock-gas,water,electricity.or in case of 15 years old-love,peace and music?, for the simple reason that nation is made up of PEOPLE and people have their own ideas, beliefs and subjective perception of the world.  are your parents from germany.russia or other land??If They are Poles they must have taught you Polish values ,which you can deny but do not say you did not hear Hey That´s why we should be free to express our opinions about everything and everyone. Any idea is valid as long as it is accounted for. Nobody forces you to agree with other people. It is possible to disagree and still respect each other.I agree but most od what is going here is to disagree and not respect the others

what he likes shouldn´t mean that people must like the anthem. It´s just a song, some people like it, some don´t. Just like kokoreç.

I do not understand your reasoning DD in the case of any national anthem of any country, not only Turkey.Comparing it to kokorec sounds very parochial,I wonder how would you react if somebody compared our anthem to "kaszanka´?

Yes ,up to a point  I agree, ppl may like or not it but IT DOES NOT MEAN that anybody is at liberty to mock at words or  a tune.Even anarchists do not...And despite one´s likness or lack of it the respect should be kept. The thing that this site lacks.

If a song or a poem was chosen to represent the nation there must have been a valid reason for which this song or poem was placed over others.VALID for the nation ,which means  that any  public mockery and insults at the anthem  are targeted at its people.

 01 Apr 2009 Wed 06:02 pm

According to the Un Child Rights Convention signed by almost all countries in the world the interest of the child is the main point on which country policies must be focused. Some countries don´t have sufficient laws and structures to provide children with their basic needs -care,love and education. And if this ability of the country fails an international adoption seems to be rightful to be considered. In case an abandoned child cannot be brought up by relatives,or community members acting as foster parents or any other family willing to provide all basic needs for this child and all other options better than orphanages,to which I strongly oppose ,are exhausted international adoption  with agreement to national and international laws is the best option .

Another problem is the age  and health condition of adopted  to be children. Most of future foster families are interested in babies and toddlers with excellent health conditions.

Infertility and childlesness are the main reasons in many cases for foster parents to look for a child  preferably small enough, who will fill emptiness in their life and help them create happy family. And if this happens both - a child and parents can benefit.

But on the other hand not all kids that can be adopted are under  age of 3 years old and  in excellent health. My admiration goes to any parent who decides on adopting such a kid in order to help him/her enjoy happy, careless childhood and provide medical care,no matter if  single or married parents are.

Just adding to my original post,I am not against adoption even by foreigners but I do think

that the more attention should be given to the needs of the child by first trying adoption or foster care locally in child´s homeland  and my thought refers to pretty well functioning countries  with decent per capita not to the countries affected by wars,conflicts,etc...

Why Zeus has to be a character in Turkish literature?Thrace had its pantheon of Gods and Bosphorus is a Thracian word.Istanbul was not exclusively Turkish)and Thrace was taken all over by Turks in 14th century.surprise?))))

WITHOUT FORGETTING TO:

45. Give her compliments regularly
46. Love shopping
47. Be honest
48. Be very rich
49. Not stress her out
50. Not look at other girls

AND AT THE SAME TIME, YOU MUST ALSO:

51. Give her lots of attention, but expect little yourself
52. Give her lots of time, especially time for herself
53. Give her lots of space, never worrying about where she goes

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT:

54. Never to forget:

* arrangements she makes

the list to be continued.......

I am not so sure about this, why are there not enough people in Turkey who can or will adopt Turkish children?  Is it not a common thing?

My worry is that you end up with the Madonna effect, not so sure it is right that children are taken out of their natural environment.  I know they adapt, but we are not talking about a third world country here, we are talking about a country that is looking for entry into the EU.

I am afraid I am the old fashioned sort and I believe that a child needs two parents, not a single parent by choice or gay parents.

I agree with Libra. In my opinion all conditions should be provided to facilitate children´s growth in their homeland in terms of care, education, foster parents,etc...

And I do agree that a child needs two parents of opposite sex...

First of all Adana, the benefits of Europe are no less beneficial for us if the large European countries are opposed to our entrance or not. At the end of the day, they do not have veto powers to stop our accession have you ever thought that in case of referendum veto will increase?, and neither can they alone stop our accession. Plus, we have the backing of Britain which you fail to mention. And the support of Poland, which you fail to mention as well

Of course Turkey needs such a democracy, or have you forgotten the importance of democracy within our independant state? Improvement of democracy means improvement of political freedoms and civil rights for everybody to in joy, be it gay or lesbian, christian, muslim or Jew. How can you even question such a thing? Are you forgetting the work of our founding father?Never but how can mentality of religious people suddenly trigger secular thinking?

A new colonisation era? Intregrating within a continent of modernized, advanced civilizations in no part entails colonisation. Where have you got this from? Inorder for us to feel like insiders in Europe, changes must be made at home.  I Always kept on repeating that Turkey has enough power itself to make all neccessary changes That includes reforms and modernization within our society. A westernized democracy and society is whats neccessary to make turks feel more at home in Europe, and there failure to integrate into places such as Germany is evident our society is not as modern as we should be. Therefore, yes, feeling at home in Europe is neccessary. Isn´t it general attitude to Turkey in Europe that makes you not feeling at home?

Though you state quiet correctly turkey can grow without Europe, you clearly have little idea on the workings or point of the EU. If we compared Turkey to how it is now, to what a European Turkey could be like, you"ll notice statistically Turkey will have a much bigger potential of becoming a power within Europe, and a bigger one. I noticed ,and also noticed European fear of it

EU new colony? You lack of knowledge on the union is evident in your statements. I live in Eu member state, seeing benefits and drawbacks for our economy.Infact its pretty amusing.  Thank you -it was my goal to amuse I wont even referr to your other comments on european crusaders  I only wonder if Turks like  their land  being bought by foreigners?or european collapse-13 American states also wants  sovereignty, just a thought.. as you english is so aweful yours is awesome)i cant understand fully what you said. Clearly your backward mentality ....ouch) I will melt if you call me a nationalist is preventing you from seeing Turkey needs the EU to modernize, and progess, something you obviously do not wish turkey to do.You jump into conclusions very fast ,unfortunately wrong ones.I did not say or even had the slightest idea that Turkey should not modernise and progress.Personally I am for Turkey in EU,free travelling ,work access and settlement. I am only trying to show general European  biased tendency against its access. You follow euphoria of EU committee distracted a bit now by the Czech Republic goverment crisis.

Are you blind not to see that in Europe Turkey is considered Asian,Islamic ,backward country by ordinary  Europeans if you like it or not and media do not create positive picture of Turkey.

Just to your knowledge I strongly oppose such thinking but ppl who think Turkey should be part of EU are in minority.

Thanks for your childish comeback at my posts, im hopeful ill hear more in the future

you wish you have)

BTW welcome to TCL again)

and have a nice day!

I think Turkish accession into the EU will be a very positive step. You think but not all Eu countries taking France as a leading opposer one,not to mention Austria,GermanyNot only will it provide the framework for us to further adopt a progressive, westernized democracy, does Turkey really need such democracy? what does that mean for you?gay and lesbian rights, immigration status,etc...?but it will provide opportunities for total integration of our society ..yeah..new colonisation era...taking over without a war..within EU boarders where they have felt like outsiders for years.Does Turkey need Europe to feel like insiders? It will provide opportunities for investment in a country that is growing radically; in a country that has remained the only secular, stable democracy within its region to the East.Turkey with its attitude to religion secular ..hmmm..like Poland protestant...???

Our accession into the EU will further catalyze our already sporadic growth.Turkey can grow without Eu Investment will double, EU businessmen will come to Turkey..what for...?to make Eu new colony? and using our unique, versatile resources, provide opportunities for new revolutionary work and businesses, creating more employement and economic stability within the country, giving rise to a generation of Turkish businessmen and entrepeneurs.OMG  or Oh my Allah    Turkey must be really a backward country if  unique, versatile resources are planning to overwhelm it....!!!!Turkey is a perfect market. The Turks are modern, well educated, enough educated to see that Eu is an artificial creature which sooner or later collapse.. and diverse in culture due to Turkeys population of immigrants from both the west and east which has given Turkish citizens a taste of different cultures from all over the world, not including our large, young and fruitful work force which is vital for business within Turkey and eventually all of Europe (which has a mainly ageing population). The gains on the European side, however, are usually misinterpreted. Some say it will sow together a widening gap of mainly christian to mainly muslim countries, Turkey has not good ad in europe ,still growing image of islam taking over it..and referring back to Spanish getting rid of Arabs, and scream over islamic values not adequate to christian European values though this is untrue. Turkish society is already mostly intregrated with the west, and though about 90 odd percent of our population is muslim, only 20% of our population is muslim in practice, and not just theory. Countries like Macedonia and Albania who seek membership would likely contribute more in terms of closing a widening gap of mainly muslim to christian countries. The real gains are simple; access to a large diverse Turkish work force, EU is not interested now..has problems with crises and riots against it..Turkey access will deep it,won´t it? access to the middle east which is vital for Europe as a general power, ability to influence events within the Middle Eastern region, access to a wealth of oil that travel through the bosphorus, and strategic opportunities to defend Europe from hostile islamic states, Oh yes..another crusade without sending Europeans, turks will do!as well as Iraqi and Afghanistani access via Turkey for the Americans,  why do americans always have to interfere with foreign affairs of some countries...?and easy access to Israel via Turkey. Our large army will further ensure and secure Europes ability to defend itself from neighbouring powers such as Russia hmmm,is Russia really a threat in this world´s game???doubts, doubts, doubts!!!!, and will help Europe to pursue a goal of one unified European army  and control Turkey as they did not manage at the beginning of 20th century making it another country controlled and submissive to tycoons will..Not possible to part Turkey..let´s make it slave.(i am opposed to such an idea because i am a strong supporter of independence for every state, including its institutions.so why all this crap?

The down sides are few, but the gains, without a doubt, are largely favourable in terms of Europes future, and its security.Blah, blah, blah

Bosphorus comes from a Thracian word which means "passage of the cow", deriving from the legend of Io who was one of many lovers of Zeus. When Hera, Zeus´ wife, suspected her husband being involved in a love affair with Io, Zeus converted Io in a small cow and tried to send her away from Hera´s rage. She (the cow) swam across the strait but Hera discovered it and she sent big flies after the cow to bite and disturb her all the time, ending Io in the Aegean Sea (thus named Ionian sea).

interesting etymology but I would rather call Io the heifer)Thanx for posting

Kiara ,thank you very much for your involvement but tracing this breed is not that easy)I checked the lineage of the horse whose picture you posted,it indeed may have a bit of Karacabey blood but I am looking for more info about original breed .The funny thing is that even encyclopaedia of horses mentions such entry without a picture)

But I found an interesting book by Jeremy James about other Turkish horse-a stallion

The Byerley Turk is known as one of the three foundation stallions of the Thoroughbred breed, but how he came to England is mostly a mystery. British writer Jeremy James combines thorough research and skillful storywriting to come up with this exciting "account" of the life of this important stallion

the book is available in the net as well.Thank you Kiara) and if you are willing to help again let´s carry on)

providing a link would destroy the size of the page..hahahaTHE BYERLEY TURK;BY JEREMY JAMES

I find it a bit strange that you brought the example of the Bible, more precisely New testament in your post Tami as a reference book that states ´clearly facts´ of women´s inferiority.I hope that you know that the bible itself was written not at one sitting and it was written by over 40 authors, even church authorities at that time had problems what to include  in it.Translating texts which were finally authorized also caused a lot of confusion, epistles´s letters that you quoted were not also concerned as true ones at first.

Christianity is based on belief in Jesus as God´s son and it has many denominations ,which have their own bibles so I am not sure which Bible you are reffering to.And the Bible´s language is mostly symbolic, that is why so many interpretations.

Anyway belief is more like  a hunch, religions are set of rules made by men ,so grow up and notice the fact that women were not created as inferior beings as you try to impose in the name of holy books.

Biblical references promoting female inferiority:

bullet 1 Corinthians 11:3: "...Christ is the head of every man, and a husband the head of his wife, and the head of Christ is God. (NIV)". There is some debate among theologians about the translation of the Greek word "kephale" as "head." However that word is universally used in New Testament translations.
bullet 1 Corinthians 11:7-9:"For a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head." (NIV) This refers to the practice of women wearing hair covering as a sign of inferiority. This is not longer widely observed today.
bullet 1 Corinthians 14:34-35: "...women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says, If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (NIV) This is a curious passage. It appears to prohibit all talking by women during services. But it contradicts verse 11:5, in which St. Paul states that women can actively pray and prophesy during services.

Many theologians have concluded that verses 14:33b to 36 are a later addition, added by an unknown counterfeiter with little talent at forgery. Bible scholar, Hans Conzelmann, comments on these three and a half verses: "Moreover, there are peculiarities of linguistic usage, and of thought. [within them]." 6 If they are removed, then Verse 33a merges well with Verse 37 in a seamless transition. Since they were a later forgery, they do not fulfill the basic requirement to be considered inerrant: they were not in the original manuscript written by Paul.

bullet Ephesians 5:22-24: "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife...wives should submit to their husbands in everything." (NIV)
bullet 1 Timothy; various passages: Conservative theologians date this "pastoral epistle" as having being written prior to 65 CE, and assign its authorship to Paul. Liberal theologians generally believe that it was written by an unknown author during the first half of the second century, a half-century or longer after St. Paul´s execution. If the latter is true then the epistle´s many passages reflecting female inferiority can be attributed to a gradual reinstatement of patriarchal authority by the early Church. Some of these passages are:
bullet 1 Timothy 2:11-15:"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent..." (NIV) Some Biblical scholars believe that woman and man should be replaced by wife and husband in the above passage. This would mean that the passage would not refer to women teaching men in the church, but rather wives teaching their husbands within the home. 5
bullet 1 Timothy 3:2: "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife..." (NIV) This would seem to imply that all overseers (bishops) must be male.
bullet 1 Timothy 3:8: "Deacons likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere..." (NIV)
bullet Titus 1:6: "An elder must be blameless, a husband of but one wife" (NIV). Women are apparently excluded from the position of elder or bishop.
bullet Titus 2:4: "...train the younger women...to be subject to their husbands." There is no indication of equal power sharing in marriage.
bullet 1 Peter 3:7: Women are referred to as "the weaker vessel" in comparison to their husbands

you did your homework Tami but anyway .....

Jesus´ radical treatment of women:

Christ overthrew many centuries of Jewish law and custom. He consistently treated women and men as equals. He violated numerous Old Testament regulations, which specified gender inequality. He refused to follow the behavioral rules established by the three main Jewish religious groups of the day: the Essenes, Pharisees and Sadducees. "The actions of Jesus of Nazareth towards women were therefore revolutionary." 1 Some examples are:

bullet He ignored ritual impurity laws: Mark 5:25-34 describes Jesus´ cure of a woman who suffered from menstrual bleeding for 12 years. In Judean society of the day, it was a major transgression for a man to talk to a woman other than his wife or children.
bullet He talked to foreign women: John 4:7 to 5:30 describes Jesus´ conversation with a woman of Samaria. She was doubly ritually unclean since she was both a foreigner and a woman. Men were not allowed to talk to women, except within their own families. Jesus also helped a Canaanite woman, another foreigner, in Matthew 15:22-28. Although he described non-Jews as "dogs", he was willing to talk to her, and is recorded as having cured her daughter of demon-possession.
bullet He taught women students: Jewish tradition at the time was to not allow women to be taught. Rabbi Eliezer wrote in the 1st century CE: "Rather should the words of the Torah be burned than entrusted to a woman...Whoever teaches his daughter the Torah is like one who teaches her obscenity." 5  Jesus overthrew centuries of tradition. In Luke 10:38-42, he taught Mary, sister of Martha.
bullet He used terminology which treated women as equal to men:
bullet Luke 13:16 describes how he cured a woman from an indwelling Satanic spirit. He called her a daughter of Abraham, thus implying that she had equal status with sons of Abraham. "The expression ´son of Abraham´ was commonly used to respectfully refer to a Jew, but ´daughter of Abraham´, was an unknown parallel phrase...It occurs nowhere else in the Bible." 4 It seems to be a designation created by Jesus.
bullet Luke 7:35 to 8:50 describes how Jesus´ forgave a woman´s sins. He refers to women and men (i.e. "all" people) as children of wisdom.
bullet He accepted women in his inner circle: Luke 8:1-3 describes the inner circle of Jesus´ followers: 12 male disciples and an unspecified number female supporters (Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna and "many others.") It would appear that about half of his closest followers were women.
bullet He appeared first to one or more women after his resurrection: Matthew 28:9-10 describes how Mary Magdalene and "the other Mary" were the first followers of Jesus to meet him after his resurrection. (However, this account is contradicted by passages in 1 Corinthians, which state that the first person to see Jesus was Cleopas, Peter or all of the disciples.)
bullet Women were present at Jesus´ execution: Matthew 27:55-56 and Mark 15:40-41 describe many women who followed Jesus from Galilee and were present at his crucifixion. The men had fled from the scene. (John 19:25-27 contradicts this; the author describes John as being present with the women.)
bullet He told parallel male/female stories: The author of the Gospel of Luke and of Acts shows many parallel episodes: one relating to a woman, the other to a man. For example:
bullet Simeon and Hannah in Luke 2:25-38
bullet Widow of Sarepta and Naaman in Luke 4:25-38
bullet Healing of a man possessed by a demon and the healing of the mother of Peter´s wife, starting in Luke 4:31
bullet The woman who had lived a sinful life and Simon, starting in Luke 7:36
bullet A man and woman sleeping together in Luke 17:34
bullet Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11
bullet Dionysius and Damaris in Acts 17:34
bullet Lydia and the jailer´s conversion in Acts 16:14-34

The book "Women in the Earliest Churches" lists 9 additional parallels. 3 Author Ben Witherington III quotes H. Flender:

"Luke expresses by this arrangement that man and woman stand together and side by side before God. They are equal in honor and grace; they are endowed with the same gifts and have the same responsibilities."

Some theologians have speculated that the author of the Gospel of Luke might well have been a woman.

bullet He expressed concern for widows: Jesus repeated the importance of supporting widows throughout his ministry. The Gospel of Luke alone contains 6 references to widows: (Luke 2:36, 4:26, 7:11, 18:1, 20:47 and 21:1)
bullet Divorce: In Jesus´ time, a man could divorce his wife, but the wife had no right to divorce her husband. This practice is supported by seven  references in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) in which a husband can unilaterally give his wife a bill of divorce. There were no references to a woman giving her husband such a bill. In Mark 10:11-12, Jesus overthrows this tradition and states that neither spouse can divorce the other; he treats the wife and husband equally.
bullet Selection of his disciples: There are three conflicting lists of the names of the 12 disciples that Jesus selected. In all cases, the disciples were male. He later selected a total of 70 disciples; the gender makeup of the latter group was not recorded. Some might well have been female.

In his defense, he might have chosen only single people because he wanted disciples who were unencumbered with spouses. In first century CE Jewish culture, unmarried women traveling with men would cause so much criticism that the reception of Jesus´ teaching by the public might have been impossible.
bullet Levirate Marriage: In Mark 12:18-27 Jesus answered a question posed by some Sadducees. They described a woman who was widowed and required to marry her brother-in-law. This was called a "Levirate" marriage. Their first-born son will be considered to be the son of the deceased husband. In this case, they imagined that seven brothers-in-law married her in succession without having a son.

Jesus could have used the opportunity to preach on the unfairness and sexism implicit in this requirement of Jewish law (from Deuteronomy 25:5-1. After all, the woman was not allowed to refuse to marry any of the brothers, even if she despised some of them. Levirate marriage often involved serial rape. But Jesus is not recorded as having condemned the practice.

Again in his defense, he might have criticized Levirate marriage at the time, but his words might not have been considered significant the Gospel writers who thus might not have recorded Jesus´ comments. Alternately, they might have recorded Jesus criticism of Levirate marriage in the original, autograph copy of their Gospels. However, a later copyist might have deleted the passage.

There are two passages where Jesus deviates from his usual practice of treating women equally:

horizontal rule

Treatment of Mary Magdalene:

In Matthew 28:1-7, after Jesus´ resurrection, "Mary Magdalene and the other Mary" receive the first apostolic commission of any human - to tell the good news of the  resurrection to the disciples. This is reinforced by Jesus´ appearance before the two women. The two Marys were thus the first apostles.

The The Nazarene Way of Essenic Studies comments:

"Mary Magdalene is mentioned in the Gospels as being among the women of Galilee who followed Jesus and His disciples. She was present at His Crucifixion and Burial, and went to the tomb on Easter Sunday to anoint His body. She was the first to see the Risen Lord, and to announce His Resurrection to the apostles. Accordingly, she is referred to in early Christian writings as ´the apostle to the apostles´." 8

both kuran and bible clearly state that women are inferior to men.

these two books were not written by women for sure ...I did not know you are such an expert on the Bible topic, anyway is stating that women should obey men equal with the statement you provided?

Cannot argue about Quran but if you fancy one battle over Bible..why not..Wink

Karacabey is a town in Marmara region of Turkey,Bursa province famous for its stud farm (and finest kind of cheese called Mihalic.)

Karacabey horse was light, riding one appearing black, chestnut, roan, gray, bay)It is said to be the only one typically Turkish breed.

Must have been beautiful as now this breed is extinct.Pityyyy

Anyway Libra would you fancy a bit of investigation into the topic of Turkish horses?Or perhaps there is the TC-ist who knows more about Karacabey horses?Perhaps someone has a photo of this extinct breed as unfortunately I cannot find it in the net...Karacabey farm still exists but without Karacabey breed.

Would appreciate more info)Thanx in advance.

Please translate the following sentences for my sanity´s sake:-

(1)  Her þey bildiðiniz gibi, yerinde duruyor.

Everything as you know is the same

(2)  Yalan söylediði için, iþinden çýkarildý.

He lost his job as he lied

(3)  Korktuðu þey baþýna geldi.

The thing he was scared of just happened to him

The sentence below is unrelated but the meaning does not seem to make too much sense, so please also translate:-

(4)  Düþündüklerimden ümidi kesmedim.   [I have not given up hope from the things which I have thought out ?]

I would translate as

I believe I still have hope despite my thoughts

UFFFFFFFFFFF...it was hard......

No, this is something that will come from the Admin after a consensus when we realize that a person notoriously causes trouble, for example by constantly harassing someone in the forum, or by contributing to serious fights, or something of that sort. Were I to meet you again for the first time,
But in a different orchard, in a different wood—
Perhaps for us the trees would sigh differently,
Extended into infinity under a misty hood...

Perhaps among the furrowed green you´d reach your hands
For other flowers, trembling as they were birds—
Perhaps from your undiscerning, unknowing lips
Would fall some other words—some other words...

Perhaps into a cascade of flaming roses
The sun would force our souls to burst for good,
Were I to meet you again for the first time,
But in a different orchard, in a different wood...”

The tulips should be behind bars like dangerous animals;
They are opening like the mouth of some great African cat

(it is not my thought, I just ran across it... it is yours)))))

 i prefer poppies but anyway

Tulips by Sylvia Plath
The tulips are too excitable, it is winter here.
Look how white everything is, how quiet, how snowed-in
I am learning peacefulness, lying by myself quietly
As the light lies on these white walls, this bed, these hands.
I am nobody; I have nothing to do with explosions.
I have given my name and my day-clothes up to the nurses
And my history to the anaesthetist and my body to surgeons.

They have propped my head between the pillow and the sheet-cuff
Like an eye between two white lids that will not shut.
Stupid pupil, it has to take everything in.
The nurses pass and pass, they are no trouble,
They pass the way gulls pass inland in their white caps,
Doing things with their hands, one just the same as another,
So it is impossible to tell how many there are.

My body is a pebble to them, they tend it as water
Tends to the pebbles it must run over, smoothing them gently.
They bring me numbness in their bright needles, they bring me sleep.
Now I have lost myself I am sick of baggage ----
My patent leather overnight case like a black pillbox,
My husband and child smiling out of the family photo;
Their smiles catch onto my skin, little smiling hooks.

I have let things slip, a thirty-year-old cargo boat
Stubbornly hanging on to my name and address.
They have swabbed me clear of my loving associations.
Scared and bare on the green plastic-pillowed trolley
I watched my teaset, my bureaus of linen, my books
Sink out of sight, and the water went over my head.
I am a nun now, I have never been so pure.

I didn´t want any flowers, I only wanted
To lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty.
How free it is, you have no idea how free ----
The peacefulness is so big it dazes you,
And it asks nothing, a name tag, a few trinkets.
It is what the dead close on, finally; I imagine them
Shutting their mouths on it, like a Communion tablet.

The tulips are too red in the first place, they hurt me.
Even through the gift paper I could hear them breathe
Lightly, through their white swaddlings, like an awful baby.
Their redness talks to my wound, it corresponds.
They are subtle: they seem to float, though they weigh me down,
Upsetting me with their sudden tongues and their colour,
A dozen red lead sinkers round my neck.

Nobody watched me before, now I am watched.
The tulips turn to me, and the window behind me
Where once a day the light slowly widens and slowly thins,
And I see myself, flat, ridiculous, a cut-paper shadow
Between the eye of the sun and the eyes of the tulips,
And I hve no face, I have wanted to efface myself.
The vivid tulips eat my oxygen.

Before they came the air was calm enough,
Coming and going, breath by breath, without any fuss.
Then the tulips filled it up like a loud noise.
Now the air snags and eddies round them the way a river
Snags and eddies round a sunken rust-red engine.
They concentrate my attention, that was happy
Playing and resting without committing itself.

The walls, also, seem to be warming themselves.
The tulips should be behind bars like dangerous animals;
They are opening like the mouth of some great African cat,
And I am aware of my heart: it opens and closes
Its bowl of red blooms out of sheer love of me.
The water I taste is warm and salt, like the sea,
And comes from a country far away as health.

The Foolish Man´s Dream

For a wish to just come true is a foolish man’s dream
With no action on the part of the dreamer, little can be accomplished
One might as well spend every penny they earn on the lottery
No one can hope to win race they do not enter

Yet so often, the poor and the sad
Will wish and not act, not believing they can help
Not believing in one’s self, but believing in luck
Or believing in the ability AND desire of another, be it human or inhuman, to save you

Such a savior is quite rare, it often seems too rare
Much too rare to accommodate for every wisher
Even too rare to yield any significant results overall
To the individual, it’s amazing, yet to the majority, it doesn’t exist outside of the mind

For these reasons, though they’re just one man’s experience
I believe any action, anything is better than nothing
To wish and never act is the foolish man’s dream
And every action makes him more the genius

For every action yields results
Knowledge, happiness, or success
There’s always at least knowledge
And, hopefully, determination too

With no determination, nothing will happen
With infinite determination, anything and everything you want can happen
But, then again, to want too much can just as well be one’s downfall
More desire does not always lead to more

Desire can be a bottomless pit
This pit has a ladder on the side
And all the riches in the world at the bottom
If you fall in, it’s always possible to get out
Gripping on the ladder is the hardest part
They say it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s hitting the ground

Time alone can kill a man just as surely, often more so
So, it seems, time is always of the essence
To delay a plan forever is to never carry it out
And to wait for wishes is to wait forever
For the majority, acting is the only way to succeed
And we’re all in the majority

Marcus Aurelius

Us from the second half of XX century

Splitting atoms

The conquerors of the moon

Being ashamed of

Soft gestures

Delicate sights

Warm smiles

...........when we suffer

we  twist our lips disrespectfully

when love comes

we shrug our arms disrespectfully as well

strong cynically

with ironically  squinting eyes

but late at night

with tightly closed blinds

we bite our hands

dying for love

Małgorzata Hillar 1926-1995 contemporary Polish female poet

Puzzled how strange some people can be.............. who judge others by what they think they know, without bothering to ask the person.............. I think you are far better off without such judgemental people in your life

Although it is not a story telling time let me share  psychological one with you

"Once long ago in a paradise some soul was hanging around having nothing to do,the soul was curious about so many things and heaven was an ideal place in which most of the things the soul heard about during heavenly classes did not occur.

So the soul approached the Good Spirit asking"How can I learn what is envy, anger, hatred, etc when such things cannot be found here?I want to incarnate-send me to the place where I can learn all-the soul insisted.

´Well,if you want it so much,a deal ...on one condition-Great Spirit said

you can´t do it alone, you have to find other souls which will accompany you.´

´But there is one obstacle, when it happens you will not remember that here you are friends and you lead peaceful coexistence. There in order to learn you can be enemies, you can hate each other, get angry with each other,etc... so ..when you are fed up with some people around remember they could be your beloved friends in the roles of your earthy teachers

"

Just a story,{#lang_emotions_smile}???

No,you did not hit a nerve with me,so nothing to be sorry GG. You should have known so far that I like fooling around.

If you were having fun it makes 2 of us.To tell the truth I do not have a view on you.We do not know each other from real life and virtual reality is not enough to form a view in my case.If you are wounded in which I don´t believe think how Alameda may feel from time to time.

And I do not think there is wonderful friendship between me and Porto although I like her way of perceiving world, her softness and diplomatic skills ,which I definitely lack.

She is an intelligent woman and she has the right to be perceived like an individual not like my alter ego.She is not me .

I am an escapist ,especially when  I have the feeling( perhaps wrong) that somebody surrounds me too much and insists too much.

Thank you for reading this GG,have a nice day{#lang_emotions_smile}

- Dünya için en önemli sorun, eðitimdir.Education is the most important issue for the world.

Yani, eðitim noksanlýðýdýr.

Çünkü eðitim olmazsa, kültür ve saðlýk olmaz.

In other words lack of education means lack of culture and health.

-Bu dünyada evrensel bir düzen içinde yaþýyoruz. We are living in this world in universal order

Hiç bir kültür, hiçbir kimsenin tekelinde deðildir.Yani evrenseldir.Culture belongs to no one, means it is universal

Her bir bilgi, teknoloji, medeniyet ve görüþ evrenseldir. All information, technology, civilization, ideas are universal.Bu yüzden, olaylara ,

evrensel deðil, dar açýlardan bakýldýðý sürece, bu dünyadaki çatýþmalar yok olmaz. Therefore the conflict in the world will not come to the end unless we look at the cases with universal view instead of a narrow one

Another day has past,
my feelings are still the same.
It has been a while,
since I´ve said your sweet name.

Why is it like this?
What did I do wrong?
When will these feelings end?
I´ve waited far too long.

My thoughts are fading,
the answers I can´t find.
Oh! how can I get,
you out of my mind?

The words are running out,
there´s nothing else to do.
But to wait and to hope,
that I´ll get over you.

Can my heart move on,
without another tear?
Will my emotions heal,
if you come near.

If these feelings die,
as it flows to the stream.
Will I ever wake up,
from this endless dream?

I actually agree with Cynic here (in principle, I don´t know anything about ESL in Turkey). I´ve had experience when taking Spanish with a native speaker who was not a trained teacher as well as with a non-native "real" teacher. The only thing going for the native was the pronounciation and the accent. She wasn´t able to explain the grammar at all. Being a native speaker does not make one automatically qualified to teach the language, in my opinion, just as I know I wouldn´t be able to teach anybody Polish. I also had a few Turkish classes with a native speaker, and I encountered the same problem, as she wasn´t able to explain the grammar well and ultimately I think I learned much more by myself (and of course with the help of the wonderful people at TLC) than with her.

Agree, and although I may sound a bit harsh here I do not personally believe that native speakers without university training make good teachers at all,ESL is just not enough. And talking from experience, which I mean knowing a lot of  trained and qualified Turkish teachers of English ,foreigners do not make good teachers.First of all they treat teaching as an adventure to live in Turkey, they have no idea about the system, and they finally have no psychological knowledge and ability to pass linguistic one.

It can be a bit off topic there, but thinking about Turkey and its access to EU i remember the words of Salvador de Madariaga-the Spanish scientist  and intellectual during one of pre-EU conferences

he said

"The new Europe must be born

And she will when Spaniards will say ´our Chartres´,Englishmen say"our Cracow"(btw my favourite city)Italians´our Copenhagen"and germans´our Bruges"

then Europe will live"

I can only add the EU citizens could say"our Istanbul,etc..."

long way to it...

Ahhh, you believe in everything that is written???

I would prefer coffee house knowledge but the quality sucks in London

You should not have left Turkeyor settle in Italy<Spain or Holland-they serve a good coffee)

GOOD,you do not differ from the rest of Europe, all the countries in EU are xenophobic, not all are willing to admit it.According to EU

commission survey the most xenophobic is UK,the least Spain

That is what I like about your post..See..there is a survey and you are NOT questioning it..it is fine..have you asked any question how the survey is done? no..HEYYYYYYY,I DID!I asked about survey background and percentage of Turkish university goers and school kids..nobody answered((To have full picture,i want to know the percentage of Erasmus and other UE  bursaries!

That is what I want from my country men too..

It is as simple as that..

The question is why on earth it is that difficult to accept these facts for them..And as long as they dont and DENY,WHAT DO THEY DENY??? then how do we progress?Turkey has the power itself to progress,I think. If The country survived as a country although international plans were different the country has potential itself!

Results of over 6000 compared to 70 million???Bravooooo !!!!!!!!!

I am emailing konda right at the moment about it. I will tell them..ok?PLEASE DO,phone calls from my country are too expensive..)))))))I would be happy if you directed me to survey website even in Turkish)

The same in EU

I doubt it..any survey? or any proof?WILL TRY TO PROVIDE)

EU citizens do not cry

Well you dont..but we are turks we should and we will..Ehh,are you any better?

IT is important to my mind but i am a dinosaur in face of new technologies overcome.Dinosaurs are all who worship books as source of info...ehh,hayat!

well as long as they spent their time infront of a screen and searching porn it is better if they read really..

haha,try to make them)

I am laughing at this thread because it is amazing to see how laughable people can get with their empty nationalistic protective instincts.

How can people can object to these findings? on what bases?

If there was a survey and if they said turks have shorter legs than their eu counter parts, they would argue that how the measurement is done!!Ahhh, you believe in everything that is written???

Are we not xenaphobic? GOOD,you do not differ from the rest of Europe, all the countries in EU are xenophobic, not all are willing to admit it.According to EU

commission survey the most xenophobic is UK,the least Spain

well sorry to dissapoint everybody but yes we are. It does not fit our historical hospitable profile which we are proud of but we are..

Instead of taking the results as a warning or as an indicater that we should be working on this issue jumping up and down and saying ´Noooo those people might have been mischiev may be  they were  lying; were you there and seen them giving these answers by your own eyes?  the weather is cloudy; referee was supporting you anyway; and blah blah´ will not change that fact..Results of over 6000 compared to 70 million???Bravooooo !!!!!!!!!

That is the reason the best answer was from Meltem..

Coming with the argument that ´but your racists are gaining support as well´ wont help either..

70 % people wont read books..The same in EU

It is a result we should all cry really..EU citizens do not cry

But look alameda..look at her answer: ´reading books is not a good thing anyway´. Yani..oha..everybody is trying to talk about the importance of education and reading, she is coming with a brilliant idea and it is : reading is not necessary anyway..IT is important to my mind but i am a dinosaur in face of new technologies overcome.Dinosaurs are all who worship books as source of info...ehh,hayat!

And she thinks that she is supporting Turkey with it..phew

It is better if I dont go to the other results from the survey..Which results?

And I am still laughing here.

Me too))))))))))

This is a common misconception.  People do not change their minds about a country just because of a few newspaper articles, or posts. PEOPLE haven´t a clue about Turkey,I mean an average EU citizen who is not a member of TLC

People are on this site because they have an interest in Turkey, and unless you are of a very weak character, you are not going to change your mind about the country as a whole - are YOU so easily swayed in your opinions?I WAS not talking about TLC members,I strongly believe everyone here has an opinion about the country and its policies, stable opinions so easily visible in many threads

If anything, the opposite is true. For example, posts like Chiko´s Survey increase my liking for Turkey and Turks because they are brave enough to criticise and I think " WAITING FOR IT but I hope more data will be provided..what about survey among members??

yeah they are just like us".  Posts where every bad thing is denied just makes me see Turkey as some kind of regime.

Do you really think people deny things?

The misconception for me is throwing names so easily and labelling .

I don´t think there is anything wrong with loving your country.  However, it does become a problem when you can´t accept it´s good and bad points together.

Every country has its drawbacks to more or less extend, the thing that becomes a problem is ,in my opinion ,when drawbacks are more intensively exposed and used as a basis to form foreigners´ opinions about this particular country. This happens in case of Turkey, travelling across EU and living in some of EU countries I haven´t noticed positive advertising of Turkey in media apart touristic spots.

On the contrary Turkey is depicted as underdeveloped country, which works as a deterent  to accept it to EU.

No wonder that those who love their country ,trying to emphasise its good points, are sooner or later called nationalists here.

Are you a zionist or a nationalist, or an outright denier???

You cannot question the result nor the interpretations. It was done by Konda, remember?

No questioning, just accept and confirm... or else...

I question the interpretation and still have doubts how representative is number 6400 of participants with unknown background (not to mention other details of the survey)for 70 million of population.

Decent polls require at least 10% of participants....In that case how can it be treated seriously?

And you can call me nationalist or whatever{#lang_emotions_bigsmile}

They must be using one of survey methods or many of them together. you can call them to get details  Konda is the best survey company of turkey, belive me they are not traitor and believe me what the Guardian does is not trying to divide Turkey as most turkish would think

I do not undermine credibility of Konda and straightforward facts provided by this poll. What I undermine is article itself ,a typical example of decline of journalistic standards, for me informative article is giving background for such kind of survey. And this article lacks it seriously. That is why I came up with my questions.

Talking about xenophobia in the light of financial problems and visa requirements for Turks introduced by most of countries changes its understanding provided in the article.

Without data  about interviewed ones and their socio-economic background it turns into trival editorial.

Interesting read,if it was conducted in my country the polltakers probably would receive the same results as far as reading goes.

I have some questions concerning this survey

1.How representative is the number 6482 for the whole Turkish population?

2.Why in this article I can´t find anything about respondents, their age, sex, social  and economic status?{#lang_emotions_unsure}These data are important to form an opinion.

3.What is the percentage of University goers and school kids in Turkey

Grateful if someone could provide an answer

When we Two Parted

When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted,
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this.

The dew of the morning
Sank chill on my brow—
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame:
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o´er me—
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee,
Who knew thee too well:—
Long, long shall I rue thee
Too deeply to tell.

In secret we met—
In silence I grieve
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
After long years,
How should I greet thee?—
With silence and tears

Quoting cynicmystic

I think you should talk for yourself rather than referring to the rest of us with the "we did this & that" attitude. Using the third person plural does not make your points any more credible, or make you sound like a genuinely humanitarian Turk.

I, for example, did not do any of those things that you claim collectively as we did. I didn´t kill & torture anyone; didn´t burn any villages; didn´t commit any crimes against humanity; or assimiliate anyone. In fact, no one has actually asked me for my opinion, permission, authorization or participation in these matters. This also happens to be the case for probably 99% of that ´we´ you seem to be fond of. I am sure you are capable of comprehending the basic notion of difference between the actions of a government & the lack of involvement of the general public in the excution of certain governmental decisions. Did the average Joe on the street in Pig´s Knuckle, Arkansas authorize the invasion of Iraq? Did they hold a general referandum in Turkey to ask everyone what they think should be done?

It is not the articles or the arguments you provide that people disagree with. It is your attitude of generalization, and forcing everyone acknowledge your black-and-white perspective on the matter.

"- We, the Turks, did this & that; assimilated; killed; tortured; maimed; committed crimes; and suppressed. - I have provided the numbers and the evidence, so this is how it is... You cannot deny. You cannot disagree..." With this sort of logic, I don´t think you will get many people to agree with you.

Are you also suggesting that Kurds were killed only by Turks? If you have any knowledge about this topic, and I really do that you have for you seem to post about it a whole lot, then you would know very well that, during the incidences you are referring to, a lot of Kurds were also killed by other Kurds. Why do you omit this fact from your arguments. You have heard of the clash of the Kurdish aþiret lords with the PKK, have you not? Aside from being against the policies of the Republic of Turkey - not ´us Turks´ - the PKK was also a revolt against the age-old Kurdish aþiret system, which was resented by many young Kurds. That is precisely why every single Kurdish aþiret armed their men and sent them off to fight PKK in order to protect their interests. Armed Kurdish aþiret fighters fought side by side with the Turkish army soldiers against armed Kurdish PKK guerillas. How do you explain that?

Along the same lines, any time anyone mentions the involvement of foreign powers in escalating violence by providing arms and funds, you accuse them of being brainwashed and sounding like Turkish generals. Are you truly expecting anyone to disregard the fact that both Germany & the UK were involved in the affairs of Turkey by supporting PKK behind closed doors?

Nobody is saying the incidences from the articles that you love clip & post so much did not happen. They just didn´t happen the way you present them to have happened, nor did they happen for the reasons you say they happened.

well said I admit but don´t you have an impression that thehandsom identifies himself with all the nation ???what an ego..sorry no personal attack, just a thought)

Protecting Turkishness continues
"

ANKARA - The Justice Ministry has rejected 403 applications for investigations into remarks perceived as insulting "Turkishness" since May 8, 2008. It accepted 70 applications and 113 are still being considered, the justice minister said Friday.

In response to Nationalist Movement Party, or
MHP, deputy Erkan Ekçay’s parliamentary question, Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Þahin said since May 8 last year when the ministry was given authority to approve or reject cases linked to Article 301 of the penal code, courts have suspended 301 trials, forwarding them to the ministry for reassessment. "That is why there are so many applications," he said, according to the Anatolia news agency."

When asked to confirm that thehandsom was on the list, Ekcay would not confirm or deny saying "I will not comment on individual cases".  He did, however, add that Tami was to receive a special medal for his services above and beyond the call duty for defending Turkishness

The combination of arabic and turkish is a huuge mouthful. There are some loanwords in turkish from arabic but that´s about the only similarity.

There isn´t any background language though azeri is similar, of course, and what they speak in Mongolia (?)

Mongolian languages that include western mongolians like Kalmyck and eastern mongolians like Buryat,Khalkha-the official lg there and others.

Though more colloquial in tone, it is not incorrect to use "better" as a verb synonymous with "improve" (I double-checked in "Use the Right Word" just to make sure).

And, I would only hope that the teacher would uproot mistakes . I would be more concerned if s/he made them ingrained or planted (if you want to stay with the botanical vocabulary) them in the children´s minds.

Thank you for correcting and pointing verb better,we are learning all the time and it is fascinating.

TRADITIONAL CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You sell one and force the other to produce the milk of four cows.
You are surprised when the cow drops dead.

A FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You go on strike because you want three cows.
You go to lunch.

Life is good.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk.
You then create clever cow cartoon images called ‘Cowkimon’ and market them World-Wide.

A GERMAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You re-engineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and milk themselves.

A BRITISH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Both are mad.

An ITALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are.
You break for lunch and forget about the cows

A SWISS CORPORATION
You have 5,000 cows and none of which belong to you.
You charge others for storing them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them.
You claim full employment and high bovine productivity.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You worship them.

A MALAYSIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You signed a 40-year contract to supply milk at RM0.06 per litre. Then midway
through, you raised the price to RM0.60 or you cut the supply. When the buyer agrees to the new price, you change your mind again and now want RM1.20. The buyer decided you can keep the milk and they go look for milk that comes from recycled cows or the cow urine instead. Your two cows retire together with the Prime Minister with all the shit around him.

RUSSIAN CORPORATION

You have two cows.

You have some vodka.

You count them and learn you have five cows.

You have some more vodka.

You count them again and learn you have 42 cows.

The Mafia shows up and takes over however many cows you really have.

Yes, English is the worst because of the "few" rules many "exceptions"

I think English is difficult because of the many rules, but how is the vowel sounding or any other things that made english hard to learn?

I am thinking of teaching children so I have to make lots of games {#lang_emotions_get_you}  to help

None of the languages is difficult enough if you have so called language aptitude and do you really think English is the hardest of them to learn?

And as far as kids are concerned ,in my opinion the best of teachers should teach them.Young learners absorb info so quickly and if the teacher is pseudo´teacher´may do more harm to them than good.He or she may only root mistakes and make their learning more difficult in the future.

Anyway

for games and other resources look at

www.englishtips.org

English version available,to download you must register

I think every learner sooner or later comes to such dilemma, either to give up or carry on..You are not the only exception Graham from this rule.Everybody learns in different way and style. To my mind you have to answer this question yourself knowing the way you learn and what you are learning for.

Why don´t you take some Turkish courses in Turkey, being exposed to the language every day would certainly help if I can suggest.

Don´t give up your enthusiasm !Although Turkish is totally different from your mother tongue it is such a beautiful language and worth learning .Just give yourself more time and do not give up easily{#lang_emotions_smile}

Crime claim-a person or a position of authority has to show the concrete proofs, has to specify the crime elements and has to describe what crime is according to laws.

Suspect or sentenced person- a person who commited a crime according to a decision of court and has the right to appeal.

Masum.....not guilty.Everyone is found not guilty if his crime is not admitted or refused by court.People are basically, primarily not guilty.

Human beings rights and forbidden things by religion-violating human rights and making forbidden actions are the biggest crime and sin.

Why Runes versus Futhark?Aren´t they one and the same? The only difference is terminology used and dissimilar interpretation of a writing system.Runes mean secret meaning  while Futhark is the name given due to first six glyphs of that alphabet.

No matter what is the name it is extremely interesting how it spread and how much cultures have in common.

yazýn bodruma gelecekmisin acaba gelirsin çok memnun kalnýz bay

I wonder will you come to Bodrum in the summer. Very happy you come  Mr. Kalnýz

The last sentence has thrown me because I can´t make good Enlgish out of it and I´m not sure kalnýz is a name - makes no sense to me either way.

If it is a name I want to ask "who is Kalnýz?" so would it be ok to say "Kim Kalnýz Bay?"

Thanks in advance

 I would put it

I wonder if you will come to Bodrum in the summer and it makes me happy,Mr K

and

ask

Kalniz bay kim?

Çok iyi birisin.  Sevgi dolu, dürüst, þefkatli ve hassas. Biliyorum, görebiliyorum.  Benim için çok deðerlisin.

i don´t think there is a direct translation for "i can tell", so i´ve translated it as "i can see it". maybe a native speaker knows a better way to say it=)
